Cakeday ("we", "us") is an Australian service that lets people receive birthday gifts ("shouts") from friends and family. This policy explains what information we collect, why, and what we do with it. We've written it to be read by humans.
If you create a Cakeday page: the first name you enter, your celebration date and venue (if you add one), the menu items you choose, and — when you connect a bank to receive money — an identifier for your Stripe account. Your identity documents, date of birth, and bank details are collected and held by Stripe, our payment provider, never by us. We cannot see them.
If you shout someone a gift: the name you type, your optional message, the item you chose, and your payment details — which go directly to Stripe. We never see or store your card number.
If you send or receive a cheers-back photo: the photo you take is stored so it can be delivered to the person who shouted you, and shown on your page if you choose to post it there. Camera access is used only when you tap the camera button.
Automatically: basic technical logs (like timestamps and error reports) that help us keep the service running. We do not track you across other apps or websites, we do not sell data, and we do not show ads.
To run your Cakeday page, process shouts, deliver photos and messages, pay you out via Stripe, prevent fraud and abuse, and comply with the law. That's the whole list.
All payments, identity verification, and payouts are handled by Stripe Payments Australia Pty Ltd under their own privacy policy (stripe.com/au/privacy). When you connect a bank, you're creating a Stripe Express account; Stripe verifies your identity as required by Australian law. If someone sets up a Cakeday for you, they never see or provide any of your personal or banking information — only you can claim your page.
Your Cakeday page (name, date, venue, menu, messages from mates, tab total, and photos you post to the wall) is visible to anyone with the link — that's the point of the product, but only share the link with people you're happy to see it. Cheers-back photos go only to the person who shouted, unless you also post them to your wall. We share data with no one else except Stripe (payments) and our hosting providers, and only as needed to run the service.
You can delete your Cakeday and all its data at any time from your dashboard ("Delete my Cakeday & data"), or by emailing hello@cakeday.com.au. Deletion removes your page, messages, and photos from our systems. Records Stripe must keep for financial-crime law (and completed payouts) are governed by Stripe's own retention rules.
Cakeday is not for children. You must be 18 or older to create a page with alcohol items or to receive payouts, and our app is rated 17+.
Under the Australian Privacy Act 1988 you can ask us what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or complain to the OAIC (oaic.gov.au). Email us first — we're quick.
